Diary

Diary

Geetha, at the age of 10 now, taking her mom's advice seriously started blurting out every day's experience, day in and day out with her characteristic sweet words. It was perfectly an exuberant and indulgent activity setting her unloosen from the worries due to her parents not being around for company.

Parents of Geetha, Ravi and Menaka, had their own commitments right ahead of them spending only minimum time with their little daughter. Serving in a nation's army is definitely a demanding task to attend to naturally, that too from a far away place, masking the soft spot towards family adding to his woes. Meanwhile, Menaka who is doing busy, balancing between her chores and job, finds it extremely tough to counter to her kid's needs.

Apart from the only misery of missing her dad too long, Geetha grow up to be an active kid excelling in every other activities. She has sorted out several activities to stay off home and to put off her loneliness in every possible way by indulging in painting, dancing, vocal and keyboard class making her time at home very meagre. While her stay at home means the whole lot between her and her personal record. Since it is the only way to vent her feelings, she loved it the most as it not only helped her to escape from that single resentment but also made her lively, creating a sensation of sharing matters to her parents personally.

The war field environment as always has been a hardship for Ravi but for recently it has had tormenting effect while the issue prevailing at Sri Lanka struck him thoroughly. The day to day news updates about the same is startling and made him heavy hearted in knowing about the dreadful end that is forced upon all those innocent men and women. He is completely wretched on the thought of fatal death of sinless little kids, which at once sent a flash waves of his daughter across his mind. He longed now, more than ever to see her at this very instant.

Cursing his situation of not able to do so, just made a call and talked over phone which turned his ill at ease into a great sort of relief. At once he set his mind to visit her soon during next vacation and till then he made effort to keep in touch through phone more often than before.

On the other side, Geetha rejoiced on hearing the assurance from her dad about his visit home as soon as possible. So she started updating her personal record. Seriously she jotted down most of her exciting experiences which she cherished and her dad missed, starting from - the little quarrel she had with mom in not letting her talk to him over phone for a long time, outing to nearby park with neighborhood friends, her birthday party, how she messed up in the process of helping mom cleaning home, Harry Potter movie at theatre with mom, school picnic to waterfalls, silly fight with her friends, first painting of a scenary, childish nuisance in the name of practicing singing loudly at home, poor marks in maths test and writing imposition, getting up late in the morning and missing school bus often to get a ride with mom to school, fun at Hindi coaching class, troubling mom to teach her chess, clash for TV remote in switching between cartoon and news channel, prize she received for the outstanding student of the year and lots of more and more enjoyable things. Along with this cute record, she did enclose a greeting and a personal letter to her dad which showed her love for him in the form of welcome note.

Her whole world seemed meaningful, the more and more she thought of meeting her dad and the efforts she took in preparing for the same. Being a maiden try she sought the help of her mom also in the attempt of making her diary in a ready to read format as it is supposed to be her gift for dad. Only by then Menaka realized the extremum effect their absence had left upon their daughter and how much she craved for parental care.

She felt remorsefully bitter when she considered how her playfully consoling words to her daughter, "Start writing diary - your record of daily experiences be it a cool or troublesome matter, so that u will get a chance to let your dad know all things about u and he will be much surprised when you show it!" made her so serious and how she has been badly missing him for so long.

From then onwards, together with Geetha, she too looked forward for Ravi's day at home. The fun they both had while enjoying their way up to that day entirely remained like a treasure and they cherished it to greater extent. She never thought that her daughter's memoir would turn into such sweetful memories. Finally the day has come and Menaka felt eased on hearing the door bell rang and even the more louder cry of her kid uttering "Welcome back daddy!".
